There has been lots on social media about home schooling. We know it is something parents are concerned about, wondering if you are doing enough ‘number’ things with your child or phonics and so on.
You may be working from home with your family around you or using a childcare place whilst continuing to work outside the home. We understand things are strange right now for everyone and wanted to reassure you that we are here to help where we can.
Whilst you are with your child, our advice is just keep talking about what you are doing as you go about your everyday household chores and activities.
Everything your child experiences is learning!
Do you need to do the washing? Perhaps you will sort the light colours from the dark, or the reds from the whites! See if your child can help. Perhaps they can help to load everything into the machine and later they can pair the socks.
As you are chatting about what you are doing your child will be learning new words and gaining confidence in those tasks.
Chatting non-stop is what great Early Years practitioners do all the time, every day. I remember being in a restaurant with a colleague who explained to me how she was going to cut up her huge Yorkshire pudding, as it was too big to get in her mouth in one go! Sometimes you forget who you are with!
